Leipzig, Germany – September 6th, 2024 – DHD has chosen the 2024 International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) as the launch platform for DHD Control API. Forming an integral part of firmware update 10.3, this allows secure interfacing between the company’s range of audio production systems and third-party devices and software.

“APIs are used for machine-to-machine interaction such as controlling fader-starts during studio playout or controlling and routing the mixer audio and logic system,” comments Marc Herrmann, DHD Managing Director.

“The majority of APIs currently in use are quite dated and designed for deployment over isolated networks with no built-in security. They have no support for encrypted communication or endpoint access control. DHD Control API provides the added security broadcasters and content creators need when they choose to work across remote and interconnected systems.”

“DHD Control API enables modern and secure communication within media networks, advancing integration and control to a high level of security. It also extends operational versatility beyond existing APIs by providing access to the entire core audio and logic system. This allows integration at a whole new level, adding many new possibilities which customers can utilise.”

DHD Control API is built upon standard web technologies such as WebSocket for real time communication and HTTPS/REST, both formatted in JSON. It supports certificate-based state-of-the-art transport layer security encryption (TLS) for all traffic as well as token-based access control.

DHD Control API documentation will be made publicly available to encourage industry-wide adoption. Example integrations and code samples will also be provided.

Firmware version 10.3 will be available across DHD’s entire range of production equipment, including the XC3, XD3 and XS3 IP Cores for audio processing. The latest versions will be demonstrated on DHD stand 8.B52 at IBC 2024, Amsterdam, from Friday September 13th through Monday September 16th.
